Re: Is it possible to mount and boot from a SRP or iSER target ?.
Someone had pointed me in this direction but it seems still to rely on IPoIB which I really would like to be without on my Infiniband network.
View ArticleRe: Is it possible to mount and boot from a SRP or iSER target ?.
Yep, I suspect that it is not doable without the inclusion of IPoIB currently which is a shame. I would imagine I will have to do a minimal PXE boot with IB drivers and mount SRP targets to the usual...

I had already decided on going with CentOS Linux for this setup but I am glad to hear that it has very mature Infiniband drivers. All my CG and Compositing programs support and work best with RHEL/CentOS.

Sorin Iszlai - Generally that's good advice (ie "you need to run opensm"), but for the specific topology mentioned here it's not quite right. In a 3 node setup, where two nodes have only a single port,...

It's pretty straight forward to get working. Software wise, CentOS comes with Infiniband drivers and utils that you install via yum: $ sudo yum groupinstall "Infiniband Support" When getting cards...

Yair Ifergan - Not sure who exactly to direct this to, but guessing you'd know. Some of the users in this new Community (ie Simon Lea and Charles Nguyen) are reporting MHGH28-XTC cards won't connect...

Thanks. Those X5680s will do just fine. The X56XX chips are only 10% slower per clock in Vray than the E5. That's based on some extensive comparative testing that I did personally. A couple of things...

Is all this stuff going into a proper data center, or are you going to have it at home / office ? Asking because the noise level for some of that stuff might be at the "can't think straight" level if...

How much is the SX6012? I thought that it wasn't coming out until July.
View ArticleRe: Suggestions for *quiet* Infiniband switch?
I got some pricing from my local Mellanox rep on the 6005 and 6012 a few weeks ago. MSRP SX6005: $6652MSRP SX6012: $9022 Online Street price is normally 60% of that.

It is going into a spare room I have in the house near the garage. I was actually planning on purchasing a noise dampening enclosure.

Thanks for the warning. Judging from the posts the IS5023 doesn't have that problem.

Thanks, Bmac! My Mellanox card isn't IPoIB though. It's an actual 40Gbps Ethernet HCA. I'm sure the silicone is the same as the IB cards but it's hard-wired to function as a pure Ethernet controller...
